So I just realized that since I'm no longer employed (I quit my job last August. It was dreadfully stressful and I hated it. And my hubby and my kids wanted me home.) that I can be me again. Ok, I know it took me a while to figure that one out. I have long admired the color streaks that I have seen in people's hair. I don't mean just highlights, I mean blue, purple, pink, etc. Sooo, I'm going to get a bright pink streak in my hair and if I like it, I may add more. It's kind of silly how excited I am about it. And I have been thinking of getting another tattoo. Taylor does some awesome abstract art. I think I may get some of his art as a tattoo. How fun!

Our Fundraising efforts "paid off". Taylor and Kelsey won for their division in fall festival. Don't they look great!! Overall, the king and queen candidates, K-12, raised over $18,000.00 for the school. Great job!!

Flip Flop Fundraiser

I just finished embellishing 16 pairs of flip flops as part of a fundraiser for Taylor's junior class. (I think I have sufficiently removed my own fingerprints with hot glue!) Taylor is the Fall Festival King candidate for his class, which involves lots of fundraising. The school colors are blue and gold and the mascot is a Thunderbird. Taylor's favorite is the the one with feathers!

It's Been a While

Hi Again! It's been a while since I posted. I have been so busy. I have opened a shop 3 days a week while keeping my real job. I have to keep my real job in order to afford my fun job! My husband has been a great help. He sits at the shop for me on Fridays while I am working, brings me lunch on Saturdays and Sundays and sits at the shop for me when I need to go looking for more treasures. He is truly a treasure!!

The shop is doing well. Even better than expected. I can't keep enough furniture on hand to keep it fully stocked. But that's good. It means people like what I am offering, that my prices are reasonable and I get to keep shopping for more. I love it!

Who loves Holly Hobbie?

Do any of you love Holly Hobbie or Strawberry Shortcake? I do. I am not sure why. I loved them as a kid. I still love them now. So imagine my delight when I found a Holly Hobbie kitchen set this weekend at a flea market. It is so awesome. I couldn't believe it. I got a refrigerator, stove and sink and a set of dishes for under $50 and they are in near perfect condition. Guess what else I found! A Holly Hobbie sewing machine. Squeals of Delight!!

So what am I going to do with all these lovely things? Not sure. Right now they are all sitting in my living room, next to a Holly Hobbie lamp my mom gave me for Christmas. I'm still in the admiring phase, maybe dreaming about a childhood that I didn't have. Maybe a childhood that I can re-create for Ruby June. Hhmmm...

Small Pleasures

Hi All,

I just read an article on Yahoo about small pleasures to enjoy everyday and thought I would post a story that brings me pleasure every time I remember it.

We have 2 sons who have several close friends. Their friends ask to come over quite a bit and we usually have an extra boy or two (and more recently, a girlfriend) at our house. We've grown to love these extra kids and we have hopes and dreams for them, similar to what we have for our own children. We have grown very fond of them all.

On one occassion, we had 2 extra boys as well as our 2 sons all crammed into one son's bedroom. They were all in various stages of gaming or surfing the web while carrying on a conversation. It's always amazing to me that no matter what this group of boys is doing individually, they can each keep track of the larger conversation and they know each other's "lingo". This particular evening, someone was also playing music on their ipod. The boy playing the music was taking requests and would skip around and find different songs. Sometimes they would only listen to half of it, sometimes someone would sing along, sometimes a couple would sing along in silly falsetto voices just to get a laugh. At some point the music became the background and the boys' voices took over again with their bits and pieces of conversation all meshed together.

Have you heard the song "Whatever You Like"? I can't remember who sings it, because I am not that hip. But it's probably in the R & B category (if that's even still a category-I am so not hip). Anyway, this song comes on, and all 4 of these 15 year old boys start singing along in near perfect harmony. Not just one line, not just the chorus, but the entire song. (Disclaimer: It was the edited version!) I was reading in the living room when the singing started and I just put my book down and sat there with a big goofy grin on my face wishing my husband could hear this. It was awesome!

But that's not even the best part. The best part, for me, was the next song. I could not have predicted it in a million years! The next song was "Burning Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash! This group of 15 year old boys who had just sang the newest, coolest song, were now singing a song that was originally recorded before any of them were born and they all knew the words! I was blown away. My face actually hurt from smiling so big. I wanted it to go on forever.

The singing broke up near the end of "Burning Ring of Fire" and they went back to their normal conversation, but that little instance of 4, 15 year old voices all raised spontaneously in song will live in my heart forever and it brings me pleasure every time I think about it.

Taylor and I had a good day yesterday. Taylor got a set of detail brushes for 1/2 price and some ocean sponges to do the background of his canvas. We also picked out some beads and charms for some bracelets and pins we are going to make. The charms were 30% off. Woo hoo! Don't you just love when you are going shopping for a specific item and when you find it, it's on sale. It's almost as if God is telling us that we are on the right track.

Jurgen and I are going grocery shopping shortly. Let's hope all the healthy food is on sale!! Hope everyone has a great Sunday!!

Mother/Son Bonding

Taylor and I are going to do a little Mother/Son bonding today. (His words.) Taylor is an artist. He draws all the time and has done several paintings. He just finished a painting for his high school art class and the teacher is going to frame it and hang it in the high school office. This is the first time Taylor has received this honor. He is very excited.

Taylor has always been an artist. When he was about 5, he started drawing flames and skulls and coloring them. Then he would cut them out and tape them to his toy cars and trucks. He won 2nd place in a district art contest when he was in 2nd grade for a picture he drew and colored of life on Mars, complete with martians, space ships, stars, and craters in the planet.

Today we are going to Hobby Lobby to pick up some more painting supplies for his school projects and some beads and other goodies for a few ideas we are working on together. I love seeing Taylor excited by a project idea. I love seeing him work at something that he is excited about it. I love knowing he has that creative/artistic spark that keeps his mind always humming, always working to find a new way to express himself.

New Puppy

This is our sweet new baby. Well, actually, he is Ben's

sweet new baby. Isn't he adorable! His name is Scottie,

as in "Beam me up Scottie"! (Thomas, your brother is

turning our children into Trekkies!) Scottie is a Yorkie.

My mom swapped one of her dachsund puppies for this

little cutie. Thanks Mom!

In the first picture he is chewing on the wrist strap for my

camera. In the second picture, he is trying to chew on my

thumb. His little teeth are like needles, but that's the only

way I could get him to be still long enough to snap a picture

of him. It's so funny to watch him run and bounce around.

He tires himself out and then wants to burrow under the

covers and take a nap. What a sweetie!

I am in love with these blocks I have created! I will post

pictures of the entire quilt when it's done. This is one of many

projects I am working on. So many ideas, so little time!

Age Appropriate?

Who decided we all needed to be "age appropriate"? I think it was a stupid idea!! I love color, bright colors!! I love chunky bracelets and dangly earrings. I love high-top tennis shoes and thigh high boots. I love leggings and skirts and big sweaters. I love putting my hair in a pony-tail right on the crown of my head. But I have to say, I haven't worn any of these since about the age of 21 when I found out I was pregnant and had to "grow up"! Ugh!!

My son's 17 year old girlfriend is the most colorful person I know. She has pants that are split down the middle. One leg is bright turquise blue and the other is sunny yellow. She has another pair that are half bright pink and half bright orange. Love them!! She has leopard print knee-high boots. Awesome! She wears leggings and striped skirts and tops that shimmer and jewelry that looks like you could eat it. Love it, love it, love it, love it!!

So here's to Tamra and all the other chickies, young and old, who dare to be themselves!! May you never become "Age Appropriate"!

Today was my Birthday! We always make a big deal out of birthdays at our house. It's not often that you get to have a celebration just for being you. My friend, Liz, from work was great. She decorated my office with streamers and balloons and brought cupcakes! My hubby and kids took me out to dinner yesterday and I got some great gifts. And then Jurgen cooked for me today, and made me a cake. I have such a great family and friends! Thanks to everyone who made my entire birthday weekend so nice! I love you all!!

Busy Weekend Equals New Treasure!

We have had such a busy weekend. Several weekends ago, my husband's car was hit at Wal-Mart. The lady who hit him did admit it and turned it in to her insurance, Thank Goodness!! So when Jurgen took his car to get it fixed, he got a rental car from Enterprise! He actually got a truck and he loved it. He was talking to the man at the repair shop about how much he loved the truck and the repairman told him that Enterprise actually sells their vehicles. So Jurgen got online to check it out. Long story short...The Enterprise salesman, Cortney Hill, and his wife, met us at Wal-Mart on Saturday morning to deliver Jurgen's Ford F-150 from Oklahoma. It's a year old, with low mileage and in great shape. The service from Enterprise and Cortney was wonderful. Thanks Cortney!!

Last Tuesday was Jurgen's Birthday. This Tuesday is our daughter Kristel's Birthday. She will be 21!! We celebrated her birthday this weekend. We all had dinner out together on Saturday and we let her open her gifts. She got an I-Touch. She was thrilled!! We had a celebration at our house this evening with more great food and Jurgen's home made icecream cake. We love Birthdays at our house. It's the only time of the year where each person gets a celebration just for them. Happy Birthday Kristel!!

Before the Birthday celebration this evening, Jurgen and I went flea-marketing and found some great treasures. I found a few more things for my Country Bumpkins category, and some more pink stuff!! Who doesn't love pink? I hope to have them listed on my website by tomorrow night. Stop by and have a look.

Our Babies Are All Grown Up

Today was our boys' first day of

10th grade. It breaks my heart!!

I remember when Taylor's back

pack was bigger than he was and

he was sooo excited to get to go

to school! They will graduate at

the same time, too. I already

warned them that they will hear

me sobbing in the bleachers!!

Dick's Quilt

This was my fifth quilt. I made it for my step-dad, Dick.
He loves fishing. Each fish represents a member of our
family. At the very top are two bass kissing, representing
Mom and Dick. Together they have 8 kids, who all have
kids. The fish patterns were taken from actual pictures of
bass, goggle eye, and perch. I did the quilting to try to
mimic waves. The second row from the bottom represents
me and Jurgen and our four kids.

Ben & Tate's Quilts

These look almost identical, but one has more Spider-man

blocks for Ben and the other has more Star Wars blocks for

Tate. I made matching pillows for these, too.

Kristel's Quilt

This is the second quilt I made. I made mathcing pillows,

too. This one was for Kristel's high school graduation. This

was my first attempt at machine quilting. Pattern was from

a quilting magazine.

Jurgen's First Quilt

This is the very first quilt I made. I did it while recovering
from galbladder surgery. I did red and blue embroidered
tractor blocks with patriotic fabric. I tied it with embroidery
floss for quilting. I made this one for Jurgen because he
dreamed of having a tractor!
